The Quantum Entanglement

The year is 2047, 19 years after the last Rift event was detected. Science, ever on the edge, pushing for the next big accomplishment at the end of theory, or just outside of perception. Proof they call it. Proof that the impossible could be possible.

More than a century ago, the rumors of the Rift had entered the ears of a few backyard engineers on a spiritually dormant planet called H-203. Approximately two decades ago, the Rift was detected by scientists on the same tiny blue sphere. They were never close to interacting with it, but even knowledge of its existence spurred on a fervor of scientific endeavor that had never before been seen.

Dr. Fenix, a once-in-a-generation genius and owner of the world’s most unkempt bedroom, spearheaded the effort to understand once and for all what the Rift was, and maybe even experiment on it one day. What lay in wait on the other side was anyone's guess. However, in order to meet this challenge, unprecedented action would have to be taken.

That step would come in the form of Quantum Entanglement.

They said it couldn’t be done, but the impossible has never been possible until proven otherwise. Dr. Fenix has done just that. The technology that he brought forth under heel to serve his scientific zeal was so sophisticated and intricate that even reverse engineering it would have taken a level of talent close to his own. He figured this was unlikely though, since no one had come close to challenging him in bedroom disorganization.

Made of custom fabricated chips, processors, and laser focusing crystals, the grand machine he and his team built was a maze of perplexing technological delights. His plans were by contrast simple. One, bring about the first human-made Quantum entanglement to rip asunder the fabric of space and time to expose the legendary Rift. Two, keep it controlled and sustained for research purposes. The third goal was equally important in the eyes of science, but not communicated by the dear Dr. Fenix. Essentially, he wanted to poke around inside and see what’s what. In his mind, he likened it to searching for a lost chopstick in the chaos of his room.

He proclaimed to the world that it was time to expand the minds of all who lived. With news crews and scientists from all over the globe surrounding his laboratory, Dr. Fenix flipped the switch. Nothing happened. A quick dash around to the back of the mighty machine and Dr. Fenix found an unplugged chord, covered by wrappers from lunch.

Dr. Fenix confidently flipped the switch for a second time and the day he dreamt of proved true. October 31st, 2047, at 13:06 p.m., a massive burst of gammagaluvial radiation was unleashed from the tiny blue pearl in space, covering the dark matter around the planet in silver light.

One second, H-203 was one planet in a system of planets, circling happily around a sun that wasn’t scheduled to burn out for approximately five billion years. The next second, a violent tearing of space fabric and opening of a hemisphere covering maw opened in space. Then right before Dr. Fenix’s eyes, a tiny little pink creature blooped into existence in front of him. He immediately reached for a fly swatter to test its rigidity, but a cloaked man appeared out of nowhere to stay his curious hand.

“Dr. Fenix, do you know what this creature is?” the cloaked man asked.

Dr. Fenix hesitated, then said, “I was about to get the bottom of that before you interrupted me.".

“My name is Mobi,” the cloaked man said, “and I am an Ent Master. This creature is known to my order as a Fantomon, and they are now the primary bond of all reality.”

“So without them, we no longer exist?” Dr. Fenix asked.

“If they exist and thrive, so too do we,” Mobi said. “Like the energies that bind our souls and being together, one cannot exist on this plain without the other.”

“Sounds like quantum entanglement to me, although your description sounds a lot more... descriptive,” Dr. Fenix said.

Master Mobi put a friendly arm around his shoulder. “Come, dear doctor. There is much we need to discuss. I need your help in forming a team.”

“I already have a team,” Dr. Fenix replied. He pointed to the white lab coats lined up with cameras with various sensory devices in hand.

“I’m sure they’re great at what they do,” Mobi said, “but we need something a little more analog…even spiritual.”

Dr. Fenix looked up to see the terrible splendor of the Rift, then down to his knees to the pink quantum rabbit with single white stripes across both its ears. “Spiritual, huh?” he asked with a shrug. “I guess anything is possible now.”

Without a doubt, because of these two, the universe will never be the same.
